Strangers Matter
Saturday, February 05, 2005 at 11:55 am
Ok, so I went to bed early on friday night (8 p.m. - 12:00 p.m.) and now I"m up for the night it seems. I am watching Bosom Buddies on TBS right now (5:12 a.m.). It used to be on USA or something - well, obviously it's an old sitcom but I mean most recently. I think I only saw a few episodes of it. I totally forgot that Tom Hanks was a sitcom star!
So - there's a dark-skinned character named Isabelle. I instantatinaeously recognized her as Rachel from Family Matters. I tell you, I love the Internet Movie Database. I found out that that's exactly who she was. So then I was on the Family Matters page (they list sitcoms as well as movies) and it said that Family Matters is a spin-off of Perfect Strangers!! Perfect Strangers is like my favorite sitcom ever - right up there with ALF. So it turns out that the entire show of Family Matters was based on an elevator operator named Harriet Winslow at the place Larry and Balki worked on Perfect Strangers.
So then I end up on the Family Matters page of the IMDB. Some trivia: Steve Urkel was originally supposed to only be in one episode. The audiences loved him so much he became a regular character. There were three Winslow children originally: Eddie, Laura, and Judy. Judy only lasted a few seasons before she was phased out (her parents wanted too much money).
A few facts about Judy NOT all from the IMDB. She was played by Jaimee Foxworth and is originally from Belleville, IL - not far from Greenville. Funny how it works out when you loved a show as a child - it turns out the actress is actually 3 yrs. older than me! So after the show, her parents used up all her money, ruined her life and she had a short career as a porn star.
Back on track, I recognized the other Bosom Buddy as Wayne Szalisnki (so sad but I spelled that right the first time) from Disney's .Honey I Shrunk the Kids sitcom spinoff that used to be on at 3 a.m. and now is nowhere to be seen. This was a great show too - to bad you all missed it.
Married With Futurama

I was watching Futurama and saw Leela in a spoof scene of Married with Children and I figured something out!! Her voice is actually done by Katey Sagal, the person who played the wife on that show. The actress is currently starring in the ABC Sitcom 8 Simple Rules along with David Spade. Just kind of a weird realizaton.
The Great Movie Debate
Wednesday, February 02, 2005 at 2:39 am
No, the title of this post isn't about great movies. It's about the great debate. Does knowing in advance that a movie is going to be awful make it better or worse to spend $6 to watch it anyway? I kinda want to see the movie Alone in the Dark. There's been a lot of bad video game to movie translations lately, but this time it wasn't even a great video game. It's an early '90s era 3d adventure game that could best be defined as Myst meets Resident Evil (3d style) and is about all kinds of dark magic and ghosts and creepy stuff. The story line of the game is pretty cool, but not worth a movie translation. Apparently there were a few more sequels to the first two games that I played. Somehow it ended up back on the map and so they made a movie. All the reviews are identical. Wanna know how bad it is? I'll trust this guy who reviewed it on Yahoo movies:
The best description is that this movie is a mixture of the famous elements of StarWars/National Treasure/Starship Troopers/Indiana Jones/Alien/and any low budget porn script.
This movie has so many holes in the plot that it just makes you laugh at the acting rather than being afraid of anything. I actually was hoping that the evil beings would spread through the world and into my theater seat to end my misery.
I found myself attempting to listen to the rantings of the 14-year-olds in the back row. They were adding sound effects and scripting that I must admit, was far superior than the film's actual one.
The attempt at a sex scene was pathetic to say the least; however, upon reflection it was actually the high point of the film because there was no talking.
I suggest you take your money to the homeless guy by the interstate and pay him to punch you in the face until the thought of actually going to this movie is knocked from your mind...this way you will both come out ahead. It is too late for me.
Now - at first I thought this might be a good movie. Now, it sounds bad enough that it'll be hard to resist not going anyway....especially since MST3K isn't on anymore. Anybody seen this movie or thinks I should?
Free Wireless Internet Nationwide!!!
Tuesday, February 01, 2005 at 8:23 am
Don't get too excited, it's not as cool as it seems. I stayed up until 2 a.m. today just to get a 14.4k connection to the Internet. I bought a $4 link cable on eBay to connect my cell phone to my laptop.
Apparently, there's a free local ISP in Massachussetts and a few elsewhere. Anyway, all it takes is airtime and I can connect to the Internet through Verizon Wireless at 14.4k. How fast is that? It's less than 1/4 of the average dial-up connection!!! Anyway, if I'm in the middle of nowhere and want to know how close the nearest Wal-Mart is and how to get there, I can do that - and while I'm at it do some IM and check my e-mail.....very slowly - BUT IT IS FREE!!!
As a matter of fact, that's how I'm posting this message right now. Even though I'm sitting about 5 feet from my wireless broadband router, I am connecting to the Internet through my phone at a quarter of dial-up speeds. Ok - so maybe only a few nerds care... Well, with as many people at GC that have both laptops and cell phones, maybe not.
Greet my new Greeting
Sunday, January 30, 2005 at 5:46 am
When you call my new Lingo telephone number, you will now be greeted with my new greeting. We spent a couple hours up in the Greenville College recording studios tonight - Me, Jaron D., Rachel H., Laura O., David H., Sarah W., and Robin P., that is. It may be random, it may be dangerous - but if you call my new number you'll hear it. No, I won't post it here because I don't want anyone stealing my phone #. If you want, though, you can hear my new greeting. Just open the MP3 Version of the greeting and listen away. Tell me what you think!
